A denture is a removable appliance created to replace missing teeth. Dentures are an important part of keeping the teeth and mouth in the correct position when one or more teeth are missing.

There are two types of dentures: complete and partial. Complete dentures are for patients who are missing all of their teeth, while partial dentures only fill the spaces for missing teeth along an arch. When missing any teeth, partial dentures can play an important role in preventing your other teeth from shifting in the mouth.

Dentures can:

  • Replace loss of all teeth in the upper/lower arch
  • Replace partial loss of teeth in the upper/lower arch
  • Enhance your smile and facial tissues
  • Improve speech, chewing, and digestion

Dentures give dental support and functionality to your smile. Please give our office a call to learn more about what complete dentures or partial dentures can do for your dental needs.

The procedure requires several scheduled visits to the practice over the course of several weeks. At these visits, accurate molds or impressions will be made to provide custom dentures. Preliminary fitting appointments are sometimes necessary to provide the best outcome in the shape, color, and fit of the denture. At the final appointment, the dentures are ready for adjustment and to be placed by Dr. Richard Barton for a natural and comfortable fit.

Please provide some adjustment time for your muscles and tissues to become used to the new dentures. During this temporary adjustment period, it is common to experience soreness, an increase of saliva, and possible chewing and speech difficulty. Remember that this is normal and, in time, your mouth will be fully adjusted to the dentures.

Additional instructions regarding the care and maintenance of your dentures will be given by our dentist. Remember that proper cleaning and hygiene will help with the longevity of your dentures. Please feel free to contact Richard Barton DDS at 702-456-1147 to learn more about your options for dentures in Henderson, Nevada, and to schedule your appointment.
